For the Viking project I was making photo’s for earlier this year, I also had to make photo’s of 8 different defence buildings here in Denmark. And Vestvolden was one of the eight.
I think that the closest you get to an English translation of Vestvolden, is “western rampart” even though I think a rampart is normally a defence Wall made of bricks, on a castle, and Vestvolden is more like a big – very big – wall made mainly of soil.
